Pray for Our Holy Father in Rome

On this Divine Mercy Sunday, many will begin a novena for our Pope Benedict. These words were spoken by him in 1969:

“From today’s crisis, a Church will emerge tomorrow that will have lost a great deal. She will be small and, to a large extent, will have to start from the beginning. She will no longer be able to fill many of the buildings created in her period of great splendor. Because of the smaller number of her followers, she will lose many of her privileges in society. Contrary to what has happened until now, she will present herself much more as a community of volunteers… As a small community, she will demand much more from the initiative of each of her members and she will certainly also acknowledge new forms of ministry and will raise up to the priesthood proven Christians who have other jobs… There will be an interiorized Church, which neither takes advantage of its political mandate nor flirts with the left or the right. This will be achieved with effort because the process of crystallization and clarification will demand great exertion. It will make her poor and a Church of the little people… All this will require time. The process will be slow and painful.”

The Brown Scapular Given to St. Simon Stock

My local priest enrolled me in the Brown Scapular several years ago. I fully trust in the promises of the scapular. The following is from The Pieta Prayer Book.

“Whosoever dies clothed in this (scapular) shall not suffer eternal fire.”

This is Mary’s Promise made July 16, 1261 to Saint Simon Stock.

The devils revealed to Francis of Yepes, the brother of St. John of the Cross, that three things especially tormented them. The first is the Name of Jesus; the second, the Name of Mary, and the third, the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. “Take off that habit,” they cried to him, “which snatches so many souls from us. All those clothed in it die piously and escape us.”

Your SCAPULAR, then should take on deep meaning for you. It is a rich present brought down from Heaven by

“Wear it devoutly and perseveringly,” she says to each soul, “it is my garment. To be clothed in it means you are continually thinking of me, and I in turn, am always thinking of you and helping you to secure eternal life.”

Christ’s Truth Will Set You Free

Many times I encounter people who are feel useless and used up. These are the ones who share how they feel. The message of the world has wearied them. Instead of offering them strength and compassion in Christ, we give them pity, which only wears them further down. We must lift these people up. We must give them the Gospel, give them a reason for hope, and give them our prayers.

“Sanctify them by Your Truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” John 17:17-18

Move a Mountain!

The Chaplet of Saint Michael

Saint Michael appearing one day to Antonia d’ Astonac, a most devout Servant of God, told her that he wished to be honored by nine salutations corresponding to the nine Choirs of Angels, which should consist of one Our Father and three Hail Marys in honor of each of the angelic choirs.

Promises of St. Michael

Whosoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching the Holy Table, an escort of nine angels chosen from each one of the nine choirs. In addition, for the daily recital of these nine salutations he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from purgatory for themselves and their relations.

The Chaplet of St. Michael

O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, etc.

[Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys after each of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels]

1. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity.
Amen.

2. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim may the Lord grant us the grace to leave the ways of sin and run in the paths of Christian perfection.
Amen.

3. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility.

Opposition of the World – Remembering St Stephen, Martyr

One of Jesus’ many strong warnings to His Disciples is that the world will persecute them. In the Gospel of John, Chapter 16, Jesus tells us about what will happen.

We must take care that we don’t join the world in shutting out our fellow Disciples. Many are seen in troubles and the world tells us that these troubles have come to them through their sin. Sometimes when we look more closely, we see that they are in God’s will and facing the opposition of the world.

St Stephen, the first Martyr

Stephen is the first martyr. He was one of the deacons appointed by the Apostles to organize the distribution of food to the poor. He performed many miracles and confounded the Jews in disputation. They fabricated false charges against him. At his trial he preached the risen Christ to them, so they stoned him to death. He prayed for his persecutors as he was dying. One of them, Saul of Tarsus, who was looking after the cloaks of the stone-throwers, was later converted and became the great missionary St Paul. {from the Divine Office}
